Now, who else has an A/V Rack in their pantry? Probably more people than I could imagine but a centralized A/V closet was a feature that I thought I wanted in the new home. I had one shot at running the multiple cables from the pantry area to all the locations in the house between the time the interior walls went up and before insulation and sheetrock went up. Builder was completely uncooperative about this because he didn’t understand it and didn’t want to know anything about it. Got all of the orange low voltage boxes installed and ran all of the cables over 2 weekends and a middle of the night flashlight install before the next day’s contractor’s work would prohibit my access to an area over the kitchen. Got some much needed assistance on the two weekends from my grandson. Gathered up all of the cabling we ran to go into the A/V Rack in the crawlspace up into the floor joists and there it has been for 5 years
The cables are:
- RG6 TV Coaxial
- HDMI for TV
- CAT6 for Internet
- Speaker Wire
- IR Pickups and Emitters
I have hit a supply chain snag that has a switch that I ordered somewhere in the Pacific. Can’t finish till the unit gets here but I am glad to have gotten the project off the ground. Family Room, Back Porch and Office are hooked up, Front Bedroom in process with the Master Bedroom, Middle Bedroom and Garage remaining. Now have a 2 TV / 7 channel / 2 subwoofer setup in the Family Room/Kitchen and the great sound makes it worth the wait.
(What could possibly go wrong?)
Looks fantastic! Just thinking of all the work to do that makes my hair curl like Jimi Hendrix’s. Looking forward to hearing or seeing it in action. Too bad mom isn’t able to drive onto the property and say “turn that damned thing down!”
Thanks! Been Lucky – only 2 installed HDMI cables tested bad to date. Only one is in an exterior wall which means I have to navigate the sprayed on insulation when necessary to fix it. PITA, but doable.
