Those Who Wait

It’s been a long time since the last post here at the Old Radio Ranch. Mixture of hibernation due to cold weather (anything under 60 degrees) and what some would call responsibly quarantining. We just call it another day out here on Woodpecker Ridge. The pandemic hasn’t changed much visibly in this area except the wearing of masks. I haven’t gotten out to see what businesses have survived and what might have closed for good.

Sunny Cold Winter Day – No Wind

Breaking the monotony of the winter, I got out of the house yesterday and made the rounds on the property. I’d been kicking myself for not getting out to take more pictures as the pond filled but then watching the pond fill is very much like watching paint dry. In all honesty, after the first 2 months or so of filling, the change in water level has been nearly imperceptible. There have been 2 major rain events that drastically changed the water level of the pond while the other smaller rains have added little to the perceptible water volume.

After almost a year, the pond’s water level is close to the overflow pipes in the dam. Once the water overflows, the contractor can then return to finish the work. I would not have believed the pond would have taken this long to fill but then I had estimated the depth of the pond at 12 to 15 feet instead of the 22 to 25 foot excavation depth.

The Water Level will soon be to Overflow
